Trash and Recycling

Greentown Trash and Recycling Program

Greentown hires Waste Management for weekly trash and bi-weekly recycling removal. Property taxes and your $10.00 monthly fee are used to pay for this service.

Trash Rules

  • Every home and business should have a 96 gallon toter to use.
  • All trash must be bagged and fit into one toter.
  •  What goes in? … (household waste such as food waste, unrecycable package items, and misc. household waste (junk items) are to be disposed of in your toter.
  •  You may put out double trash on our pick-up day after Christmas and New Year’s Day, which is the heaviest time for trash.
  •  We will still have our special Spring and Fall Clean up for large items not collected weekly.
  •  Waste Management will continue to pick up Christmas trees.

Removal Day and Time

Pickup day is Wednesday and begins at 6:00 A.M. Trash pickup is every week, and recycling pickup is every other week.

Waste Management will observe the following holidays:
  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day

  • Christmas Day

Please call or come to the Utility Office with trash or recycling questions, concerns or if you need a different size of containers.

Why recycle? It makes sense!
  • Reduces Waste
It reduces the waste going to landfills.
  •  Reduces Pollution
The more we recycle, the less garbage we leave on the earth.
  •  Saves Energy
Recycling one aluminum can saves as much electricity as it takes to run a television set for four hours.
  •  Conserves valuable natural resources
It takes approximately 17 trees to produce one ton of newspaper.
  •  Strengthens the economy
Reclaiming resources puts money back into the local economy and provides jobs in the recycling industry.

Recycling is mandatory in Greentown! There is also a recycling center at the fair grounds.

Single-Stream Recycling Service

Use your green container with the yellow lid to place all your recyclables together, no sorting needed! Place your container at the curb on collection day.
